Proper collection and packaging can boost your carbide scrap price by 15-25%. Sorting, contamination prevention and shipping tips.
About 15-25% of your carbide scrap price depends on the quality at which it arrives. Proper sorting and packaging eliminate extra cleaning, separation and processing costs — letting the buyer offer you a higher rate.
1. Sort by Type
- Solid (sintered) carbide: Sandwich plates, milling inserts, drill tips
- Carbide swarf and powder: Fine particles from CNC machining
- Carbide sludge: Swarf mixed with coolant
- HSS (high-speed steel): Tungsten-bearing but a separate grade
- Diamond tool scrap: PCD/PCBN — keep separate, much more valuable
Keeping these five categories in separate containers is little extra work and increases your price.
2. Prevent Contamination
Most common contaminants in carbide scrap:
- Steel tool holders (separate with magnets)
- Oily rags, plastic (use a clean dry container)
- Copper wire, aluminium chips
- Abrasives (sandpaper, grinding stones)
3. Packaging
- Drums or plastic containers: 50-200 kg metal/plastic drums are ideal.
- Swarf and powder: Use sealed containers to prevent dust loss. IBC totes work well.
- Labelling: Mark each container with type and estimated weight.
4. Shipping
Bolelli Metal collects door-to-door across Türkiye and arranges international freight. Shipping is free above a minimum tonnage. Start by sending sample photos — we'll plan price and logistics together.
